Description

Use of Force Training Program (UOFTP): The purpose of the Use of Force Training Program is to; Provide the Law Enforcement Officer/Agent with a better understanding of the Constitutional requirements for making use of force decisions; Develop proficiency at recognizing when force is objectively reasonable; Develop the Law Enforcement Officer’s/Agent’s ability to recognize additional factors that affect the decision to use force; Develop the decision-making process as it pertains to de-escalating chaotic situations as peacefully as possible while not unreasonably increasing the risk of harm to the officer, the public, or the suspect; Develop the officer’s/agent’s ability to articulate facts using plain language rather than with conclusory statements.

Prerequisites

Applicant must be a law enforcement office/agent with arrest authority in the prevention, detection, apprehension, detention and or investigation of felony and or misdemeanor violations of federal, state, local, tribal or military criminal laws, or those designated as Direct Law Enforcement Support Personnel (DSLESP) Applicant must be a member of the military that has law enforcement responsibilities or in preparation for deployment. Must be able to participate in intensive training lasting up to ten hours per day. Must not have any medical restrictions.

Required Training Materials

  • For Cheltenham Students: You must bring appropriate attire for Use of Force training (BDU pants, rough-duty shirt). Training uniforms are not provided.
  • Casual Training Attire (Tactical cargo pants, hard closed-toed shoes, duty belt)
