On May 16, 2019, FLETC Director Thomas Walters joined Acting Inspector General John Kelly and Captain Greg Davis of the Texas Department of Public Safety in testifying before the Subcommittee on Oversight, Management, and Accountability. Chairwoman Xochitl Torres Small (D-NM) convened the hearing to look more closely at FLETC and how they are meeting the law enforcement training needs at the federal, state, local, tribal, and international levels. Two OIG reports were also examined, including one that investigated structural damage to FLETC’s Artesia, New Mexico site, as well as one that examined whether FLETC would be able to meet the training needs of federal agencies given the expected increases in hiring in the coming years. Members questioned Director Walters on a host of issues ranging from human trafficking awareness training to the availability of training resources at FLETC sites.
