Georgia First Lady Speaks to Participants at FLETC Human Trafficking Training Program

For Immediate Release

GLYNCO, GA – Georgia First Lady Marty Kemp gave remarks at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) Human Trafficking Awareness Training Program pilot on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019.

More than three dozen subject matter experts; federal, state, and local law enforcement officers and leaders; FLETC trainers; congressional staff; and Georgia law enforcement professionals attended the event, where FLETC provided instruction on the indicators of human trafficking. Attendees also participated in a follow-up working group on the new FLETC training program.

“Human trafficking is a pervasive, growing threat plaguing communities across our state and country,” said Mrs. Kemp. “I applaud FLETC for their efforts to train federal, state, and local law enforcement on identifying warning signs and seeking justice for victims. Education and awareness are key in this critical fight, and by working together, we will end this criminal enterprise – once and for all.”

Mrs. Kemp serves as Co-Chair of the Georgians for Refuge, Action, Compassion, and Education Commission (GRACE). The First Lady of Georgia created GRACE to combat the threat of human trafficking in the state of Georgia. The commission comprises public officials, law enforcement, for-profit and non-profit organizations, faith-based institutions, and subject matter experts to tackle human trafficking, seek justice for victims, and hold bad actors accountable.

FLETC Director Thomas Walters said, “We are grateful for First Lady Kemp’s presence today and for her support in countering human trafficking. It was and is our ambition to contribute the expertise of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers to the fight.”

During the visit, Mrs. Kemp received a tour of the 1,600-acre FLETC headquarters in Coastal Georgia. FLETC instructors demonstrated realistic human-trafficking training for Georgia’s First Lady.

The FLETC Human Trafficking Awareness Training Program focuses on common human trafficking indicators and proper reporting protocols. Once FLETC finalizes the program, it will be available to federal, state, local, tribal, and campus law enforcement nationwide.
