GLYNCO, GEORGIA-This week the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) partnered with the Department of Homeland Security’s National Protection and Programs Directorate and private security stakeholders to pilot the FLETC Private/Public Partnership Academy at FLETC’s headquarters in Glynco, Georgia.
“This training with FLETC and private security stakeholders is extremely important in protecting commercial facilities,” said NPPD Assistant Secretary for Infrastructure Protection Caitlin Durkovich. “DHS is committed to the mission of balancing security priorities with the need for open access, public confidence, and economic vitality.”
The goal of the two-day training event was to bring together public and private stakeholders to participate in training pertinent to securing public venues, with a broader goal of improving coordination, security, and resiliency across the homeland. Participants included mall executives, mall security directors, and local law enforcement representatives.
“We’ve worked with the private sector over many years, and we’ve trained thousands of state and local law enforcement officers. But this is the first training event exclusively focused on the important partnership between the public and private sectors,” said FLETC Director Connie Patrick.
Training programs included Terrorism Awareness, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Improvised Explosive Devices and Leadership in a Crisis Situation.
