FLETC Honors United States Senator Saxby Chambliss

GYLNCO, GA — Today, October 2, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) honored Senator Saxby Chambliss of Georgia by naming the courtyard located in the center of the FLETC training complex, “Chambliss Courtyard.”  The Courtyard features a remembrance walkway honoring FLETC employees and Partner Organizations representatives.

FLETC Director Connie Patrick said, “We are honored today to dedicate a portion of the core – the heart – of our campus in your name.”

Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson presented Senator Saxby Chambliss with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Distinguished Public Service Medal, the Department’s highest honor, in recognition of his work to strengthen our homeland and his efforts to ensure the safety and security of the American people.

Secretary Johnson, Senator Chambliss and his wife Julianne Chambliss, elected officials, Congressional staff members, leaders from state and local law enforcement agencies, local community leaders, members of academia, Partner Organization representatives, FLETC staff and students were in attendance.

The FLETC trains the majority of federal officers and agents in the United States. In addition to providing training for over 90 federal partner organizations, FLETC also provides training to state, local, tribal and international police in selected advanced programs; graduates approximately 70,000 students annually and is the largest law enforcement training organization in the country.

Headquartered on a 1600-acre campus at Glynco, near Brunswick, Georgia, the FLETC operates facilities in Artesia, New Mexico; Charleston, South Carolina; and Cheltenham, Maryland. The FLETC also has oversight responsibility on behalf of the Department of Homeland Security for the International Law Enforcement Academies at Gaborone, Botswana; and Bangkok, Thailand.
