Glynco, GA -- Approximately 180 members of the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce gathered at the FLETC Headquarters on Thursday, June 4, for their biannual membership luncheon. FLETC Director Connie Patrick welcomed the group and spoke about the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services final report on the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing.
“It is incumbent upon us here at FLETC to proactively think about this issue from the training perspective. Public trust is critical to police work, and we have a responsibility to help foster that trust through training to the extent that we can. We have to prepare law enforcement with tactics to deal with the worst threats, but also train them to deescalate situations when appropriate” said Patrick.
The FLETC trains the majority of federal officers and agents in the United States. In addition to providing training for over 90 federal partner organizations, FLETC also provides training to state, local, tribal and international police in selected advanced programs; graduates approximately 70,000 students annually; and is the largest law enforcement training organization in the country.
