Discussed Joint Efforts to Keep Students Safe at School
GLYNCO- Yesterday, Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) Director Thomas J. Walters represented Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen M. Nielsen at the Federal Commission on School Safety’s field visit to the Lake Hamilton School District in Percy, Arkansas.
The Federal Commission on School Safety began in March 2018 when President Donald Trump appointed U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to lead commission. With the Department of Education as the lead, and with participation from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Justice, and Department of Health and Human Services, the Commission is charged with quickly providing meaningful and actionable recommendations to keep students safe at school.
FLETC has provided input into DHS’s contribution of the Federal Commission’s Report. FLETC was assigned to draft a section of the report titled “Active Shooter Training for Law Enforcement” to focus on how state and local agencies implement best practices based on training.
