Four FLETC Training Programs Earn Accreditation Status

For Immediate Release

GLYNCO, GEORGIA – The Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) is pleased to announce it received initial accreditation status for the Rural Police Officer Training Program (RPOTP) and the Law Enforcement Instructional Skills Training Program (LEISTP), and reaccreditation status for the Boat Operators Anti-Terrorism Training Program (BOAT) and the Law Enforcement Driver Instructor (LEDITP) Training Program during the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board meeting November 3, 2016, in Glynco, Georgia.

The RPOTP, offered at the FLETC site in Artesia, New Mexico, is the basic training program for police officers working in rural America and those enforcing laws and regulations on Indian and tribal lands. The LEISTP provides training for law enforcement personnel on the principles and techniques of instruction, with a focus on presentation skills. The program incorporates a variety of instructional methodologies including lectures, discussions, laboratories, and a practical exercise. The BOAT program is designed to train federal, state, and local marine law enforcement officers on the advanced skills required to operate vessels in anti-terrorism/port security operations. It provides students the skills to recognize potential terrorism targets, possible delivery methods, and actions that might indicate terrorist or criminal activity. The LEDITP trains federal, state, and local law enforcement instructors on the principles, philosophies, and techniques of teaching a law enforcement driver instructor curriculum.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in Program Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, Training Delivery, and Distance Learning. The accreditation process occurs every five years. Each year, agencies submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.

FLETC trains the majority of federal officers and agents in the United States. In addition to providing training for more than 90 federal partner organizations, FLETC provides training to state, local, tribal, and international law enforcement personnel in advanced programs; graduates approximately 70,000 students annually; and is the largest law enforcement training organization in the country.
