Hurricane Irma and nor’easter combine for potentially disastrous conditions
GLYNN COUNTY, Ga.- A tropical storm watch has been declared for all areas of Glynn County. The Glynn County Emergency Operations Center continues to monitor the life threatening category four Hurricane Irma. A nor’easter may affect the area as soon as Sunday morning bringing along 40-60 mph winds, heavy rains, and coastal flooding. Additionally Glynn County now faces an increased threat of tornadoes as early as Sunday evening due to being an area Northeast of Irma’s center. Severe storm surge and widespread power outages can be expected.
The public should be aware that Hurricane Irma has not made landfall and has the potential to be extremely unpredictable. Any shift eastward will have disastrous consequences for this area. Glynn County remains under a mandatory evacuation and public officials would like to caution citizens that it is not safe to return to Glynn County until reentry procedures are enacted.
Glynn County officials continue to monitor the storm and advise the public to prepare for deteriorating weather conditions. Another public service announcement will be released this evening, Saturday, September 9, 2017.
