Description

The LESUASPTP is an 80-hour program designed to educate the novice Law Enforcement sUAS Pilot in operational considerations of sUAS missions.  Upon graduation, partner organizations attain a competent pilot who has demonstrated the ability to pilot a sUAS.  Additionally, the graduate earns the required credentials to fly operationally in support of their agency’s law enforcement mission within the limitations set forth by 14 CFR 107 with successful completion of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Part 107 Knowledge Test.

The training consists of lectures, hands-on training laboratories, indoor and outdoor flights, and student-centered learning activities in the form of scenario-based training with role players to create a comprehensive learning experience. Topics include certification requirements of operation, legal considerations in sUAS operation, documentation involved in sUAS operation, and the components of cybersecurity in sUAS mission planning and execution.

 

Prerequisites

  1. Applicant must be a law enforcement officer/agent with arrest authority in the prevention, detection, apprehension, detention and/or investigation of felony and/or misdemeanor violations of federal, state, local, tribal, or military criminal laws.
  2. Applicants can be members of the military that has law enforcement responsibilities or in preparation for deployment.
  3. Must be able to participate in intensive training lasting up to ten hours per day.
  4. Must not have any medical restrictions.
  5. Applicants must be eligible for FAA certifications, i.e., must read, speak, write, and comprehend the English language.
