CHELTENHAM, Md. – On January 15, 2020, with coordination between the National Capital Region and Technical Training Operation Directorates, FLETC Cheltenham delivered the inaugural one-day Human Trafficking Awareness Training (HTAT) program to 46 state, local, and federal officers/agents from 23 different agencies throughout the National Capital Region.
FLETC designed the introductory HTAT program to train law enforcement officers to recognize the indicators and respond appropriately to suspected cases of human trafficking. The desired outcome is to turn victims of human trafficking into survivors of human trafficking.
The one-day program consists of four hours of lecture-based training focusing on the human trafficking indicators followed by two to four hours of a guided panel discussion by local panelists who are heavily involved in combating human trafficking in the region where the training is occurring. The panel for Jan. 15, consisted of members of the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force.
