CHARLESTON, SC — The Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) Charleston team, joined by partner organization personnel, made a significant impact during the 2024 Day of Caring by volunteering at the Lowcountry Food Bank in Charleston, SC on Nov. 21, 2024. Eighteen volunteers dedicated their time to assembling 200 boxes of non-perishable food items for local families in need.
The event underscored FLETC’s commitment to its core values of Integrity, Respect, and Mission Excellence. By swiftly surpassing their goal, the volunteers demonstrated agility and teamwork, embodying FLETC’s mission to support communities and promote public service. Their efforts aligned with the organization’s broader mission of supporting law enforcement professionals who safeguard communities.
“The Day of Caring event allows us to go out and engage with the local community and make a positive impact; I think it shows that we all are invested and care about the community around where FLETC CHS is located,” Kelly Dangerfield, Program Analyst, Event Coordinator, FLETC Charleston.
After a brief orientation on safety procedures, volunteers organized and packed donations, which will be distributed to parents of students experiencing food insecurity in Charleston-area schools. In just over an hour, the team achieved its target, emphasizing FLETC’s dedication to excellence through timely, effective action.
The Lowcountry Food Bank, which serves more than 200,000 food-insecure individuals annually, benefits from partnerships with over 230 local agencies, including food pantries, schools, and shelters. The FLETC team’s contribution is part of a larger effort to ensure no child goes hungry, reinforcing the Food Bank’s mission to feed, advocate, and empower the community.
FLETC’s involvement in this initiative reflects its respect for the dignity of those in need. It illustrates how law enforcement training extends beyond the classroom to foster compassionate leadership and service.
“Our team enthusiastically volunteered to participate and serve on the Day of Caring. It is a testament to their generosity and exemplifies the best in all of us,” Michael Bransford, Site Director, FLETC Charleston.
By uniting in the fight against hunger, FLETC Charleston’s volunteers showcased the organization’s enduring commitment to integrity, respect, and mission excellence—values that guide both their training and community engagement.
