Description

The Cryptocurrency Analysis and Control Training Program (CACTP) is designed for law enforcement professionals seeking an intermediate to advanced understanding of how to recognize and investigate cases involving cryptocurrency. CACTP is open to sworn law enforcement personnel and individuals serving as direct law enforcement support personnel. 

 

Prerequisites

This program builds upon information covered in the Cryptocurrency for Investigators Training Program (CFITP). Therefore, students should have completed CFITP or equivalent.  Prospective students should have a thorough understanding of Bitcoin blockchain technology and tracing using free tracing tools prior to attending CACTP. This program is open to sworn law enforcement personnel and individuals serving as direct law enforcement support personnel. Students may be from federal, tribal, state, or local law enforcement agencies.

Program Syllabus/Curriculum

The Cryptocurrency Analysis and Control Training Program (CACTP) teaches intermediate to advanced cryptocurrency tracing techniques and hands-on control of cryptocurrency wallets. This course is designed to assist experienced law enforcement officers and support personnel tasked with the responsibility of conducting cryptocurrency investigations and analysis. The CACTP provides investigators and analysts experience tracing complex cryptocurrency transactions through use of leading-edge commercial tracing tools.  Students gain hands-on familiarity conducting send and receive transactions and employing wallet reconstruction techniques that are useful for undercover operations, wallet seizure, and forfeiture.  Through analysis of case studies and hands-on exercises, students explore current criminal trends and behavior employed against blockchain technology and its users. The blocks of instruction include: 

  • Cryptocurrencies and tokens.
  • Commercial tracing tools
  • Smart contract analysis.
  • Field techniques for employing and recovering cryptocurrency wallets.
  • Hands-on experience conducting transactions, tracing and gaining government control of cryptocurrencies.
