GLYNCO, Ga. - In the wake of Hurricane Helene's devastating Southeast impact, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) Headquarters in Glynco, Ga., took on a vital role, providing essential support for restoration efforts that started on Friday, Sept. 27. FLETC opened its doors to house Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Georgia Power Co. crews, ensuring access to crucial resources as the teams work tirelessly to bring power back to affected communities.
The extensive trailer city constructed on the FLETC grounds has transformed into a temporary home for over 1,500 workers. Equipped with showers, laundry facilities, and a cafeteria, the center is dedicated to ensuring that these hardworking individuals have the necessary comforts to sustain them during their demanding shifts.
"We are honored to be able to support our fellow Georgians during this difficult time," said FLETC Director Benjamine C. Huffman. “Our facilities are well-equipped to accommodate large groups of people, and we are committed to providing every possible resource to aid in the power restoration process. FLETC is proud to support Georgia Power Co., the lineworkers and other staff who are working hard to restore power to the entire Southeast affected by Hurricane Helene.”
Patrick Carver a contractor spearheading the setup and management of the turnkey base camp for Georgia lineworkers responsible for restoring power in Glynn County and surrounding areas. “With a crew of approximately 1,500 men and women, we’re committed to getting the community back up and running,” Carver stated. “Our collaboration with FLETC, FEMA, and local power companies is crucial in these efforts.”
As the power grid gradually comes back online, FLETC remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting ongoing relief efforts. The center's dedication to serving its community is a testament to the region's strength and resilience, showcasing how collaboration and resourcefulness can pave the way for recovery in the face of adversity.
